The Life and Times of Fitzroy

The Life and Times of Fitzroy from the 1950s, is an oral history project produced by the Fitzroy History Society which has recorded the memories and stories of 30 long-term residents of Fitzroy.
The audio recordings reveal different voices and experiences of Fitzroy, giving intimate insights into the lives of these residents and the changing nature of the suburb. Author Tony Birch and Rose Chong of Rose Chong Costumiers are two of the engaging contributors to the project. These are some of the people who have made their homes in Fitzroy and have made significant contributions to make it the special suburb it is today.
Devised and undertaken by a group of dedicated volunteers who are also residents of Fitzroy, this project gives a glimpse into these people’s past lives in Fitzroy, for the benefit of future generations. The outcome is a public archive of audio recordings, transcripts and photographic portraits that will be housed in digital format in the Local History Collection of the Fitzroy Branch of Yarra Libraries and can be found through the Fitzroy History Society website.
