The same great audiobook content on a new platform

Our digital audiobooks previously available through the RBdigital app have been moved to the award-winning Libby reading app. OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries worldwide and creator of the Libby app, recently acquired RBdigital and will begin to sunset the RBdigital app in 2021. Library members will find the same great audiobook content on Libby and can continue to use the RBdigital app to enjoy digital magazines. (This collection will eventually be moved to Libby later in 2021; notice will be given before this occurs).

Audiobooks currently checked out in the RBdigital app will be available through the remainder of the lending period, so members can finish the title without disruption.

Desktop users can browse and borrow through our Libby/OverDrive web portal, and mobile device users can download the Libby app from their device's app store.

Holds will not be moved over, but users can export their Transaction History from the RBdigital app for reference before placing new holds on those titles in Libby.

FAQs

How can I learn how to use Libby?

On-demand video tutorials and guides are available online or you can book a Digital Coaching session for one-to-one help from a library team member.

Why is the library moving audiobooks from RBdigital to Libby?

OverDrive has acquired RBdigital in North America, UK and Australia and is consolidating their collections into one platform. Once all libraries have transitioned their collections to OverDrive, the RBdigital platform will be retired.

When will the transition occur?

The transition took place in March 2021.

What will happen to items currently checked out on RBdigital?

Current checkouts will remain available on the RBdigital app until their lending period ends. After the transition, audiobooks will no longer be available to checkout from RBdigital app. Digital magazines will remain available on the app until further notice.

What will happen to the holds users have through RBdigital?

Holds will not be moved to OverDrive/Libby. Users can export their Transaction History from the RBdigital website by accessing My Account > Profiles. Users can place holds on those titles again in Libby.

What will happen to users’ checkout history and wish lists from RBdigital?

Checkout history and wish lists will not be moved to Libby. However, users will be able to mark titles they’ve already read/want to read using “Tags” in Libby.

How do I sign into Overdrive/Libby?

Users will sign into Overdrive/Libby using their library card number and PIN (forgot your details? Contact us), but continue using their email address to access digital magazines via the RBdigital app (until further notice).

What is the difference between OverDrive and Libby?

OverDrive is the over-arching platform/provider that owns the Libby app. Both names are sometimes used interchangeably.

How much content will be lost in transition?

Nothing will be lost in transition; OverDrive has acquired the entire RBdigital collection and will move every item over to Libby.

What about Borrowbox?

There is no change to Borrowbox – we are continuing to offer audiobooks on both platforms.

OverDrive/Libby is also used for eBooks – are we adding eBooks to the platform too?

No, at this stage we will continue to provide eBooks via CloudLibrary only.
