How to use the catalogue

 

How to search the Yarra Libraries online catalogue

Type a search term (such as a subject, title or author name) directly into the catalogue search box located prominently on our homepage, and on the top right corner of any page on our website.

You can perform a more advanced search selecting the Advanced Search box, located just to the right of the Search field.

You can refine your search results:

  • using the drop down boxes at the left of the search box
  • by selecting items to include or exclude in the 'Limit Search Results' column on the left of the Search results screen

 

Do I need to log in to the catalogue?

You will need to log in to the catalogue to:

  • access your library account online
  • renew items
  • place holds
  • make lists of items

 

How do I log in?

To log in click on then log in link at the top right of the screen and key in your user ID number and PIN.

 

What is my User ID?

Your user ID is the number which appears under the barcode on your library card.

 

What is my PIN?

  • your PIN is your unique, personal identification number. It is usually chosen when you joined the library and is four digits long
  • if you are not sure of your PIN, please ask a member of staff

 

How do I renew my items?

  • log in to your account using your user ID and PIN
  • click on the 'My Account' button
  • click on 'Renew My Materials', then select which individual items you would like to extend

 

How do I place a hold on an item?

  • search for the item
  • when you have found the item, click the 'Place Hold' button next to the item
  • if you haven't already signed in, you will need to enter your user ID and PIN
  • select the library from which you would like to pick up the item
  • you will be notified by phone, email, SMS or post when your item is ready to collect (depending on which option you chose when you joined the library). You have seven days to collect your on-hold items once the notification has been issued

 

Can I 'suspend' my on-hold items?

You can suspend items on hold by logging in to My Account on the online catalogue or by asking our staff. This is convenient if you are going on holiday, because you will not lose your place in the hold queue. Once your hold is ready to be picked up it cannot be suspended.

To suspend on-hold items:

  • log in to your account using your user ID and PIN
  • click on the 'My Account' button
  • click on 'Holds'. From here you can activate or suspend selected holds

 

Can I place a hold on items from other libraries?

Libraries Victoria

Yarra Libraries is part of Libraries Victoria, a group of public library services across Victoria, operating with a combined catalogue. Yarra Libraries members can access items located at Libraries Victoria services by searching our online catalogue. Holds cannot be placed on school, TAFE and other special collections from Libraries Victoria.
